COMMUNICATION

Essential Question:

Does the child’s communication system support self-expression, conversation, and dialogue? Is it within reach and available at all times?

A small boy in a striped polo shirt holds a white card, 4 by 6" and about a half inch thick. Two ceramic tiles are sunk into the card, one right below the other. On a table to the left, the bottom part of a poster is visible containing part of a line drawing and the word "bathroom."

Tangible cues, like the one for "bathroom," should be kept within easy reach (on a child’s desk or in a backpack), and a matching symbol should be hung, for reference, at the door of that destination.
